How the Oregon Legend Began: An Idea Born from Nature
Some brands are born from carefully planned strategies.
Others — by drawing inspiration directly from nature.
The story of the Oregon brand begins in exactly this way. It is the story of the birth not just of a single product, but of an entire industrial approach.
A path that began with a single observation
In 1946, in the state of Oregon, USA, logger and inventor Joseph Buford Cox, during a regular workday, noticed a curious detail in a tree stump. A timber beetle larva was easily chewing through solid wood, moving freely both along the grain and across it.
At that time, the chains of gasoline-powered saws used in the field often failed and required constant sharpening and maintenance. This slowed down the work process and reduced efficiency. For several months, Cox searched for a solution to this problem and ultimately found the answer in nature itself.
From nature to technology
Joseph Cox considered whether it was possible to reproduce in steel the alternating C-shaped jaw structure of the larva. In the basement of his home in Portland, he conducted experiments that resulted in the creation of an entirely new saw chain.
In November 1947, the first “Cox Chipper Chain” was produced and released for sale. It became a revolutionary innovation in the field of logging. Reduced sharpening requirements, along with stable and efficient cutting performance, quickly made it the choice of professionals.
Most importantly, the key principles of this original design are still used worldwide today and have played a significant role in shaping the modern wood-processing industry.
From a small workshop to a global brand
Founded in 1947 with just four employees and a single product, Oregon Saw Chain Manufacturing Corporation rapidly developed over the years. Today, the Oregon brand represents thousands of product items, more than three thousand employees, and a name recognized worldwide.
Saw chains, guide bars, sprockets, spare parts for forestry and garden equipment — Oregon has become a synonym for quality and reliability in its industry.
The Oregon philosophy
For Oregon, manufacturing is not just a technical process. It is respect for hard work, endurance, and real operating conditions. Early working hours, demanding environments, and high expectations play a key role in shaping these products.
That is why Oregon products are created to be durable, reliable, and designed for professional use. Every detail is based on real user experience.
Conclusion
Oregon is not just a brand.
It is the result of nature-inspired engineering, decades of accumulated experience, and a commitment to consistent quality.
Today, by choosing Oregon products, customers are in fact choosing a legacy built on more than 70 years of history, trust, and professionalism.
