Safe Working Practices for Chainsaw Operations
As technology has advanced, particularly with the introduction of chain brakes as a standard safety feature on modern chainsaws, these tools have become significantly safer to use. However, wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is still essential whenever operating a chainsaw.
STIHL chainsaw protective trousers are equipped with special cut-resistant fiber layers in the thigh area. If the chainsaw cuts through the outer fabric, these fibers are immediately pulled into the chain and clog the drive sprocket, causing the chain to slow down and stop. This significantly reduces the risk of serious injury. You can learn more about the cut protection system here.
In addition to protective trousers, it is recommended to wear a helmet with a face shield or safety glasses, protective gloves, and chainsaw safety boots specifically designed for chainsaw work. If you are new to using a chainsaw, all this equipment may seem overwhelming at first. That's why STIHL has developed the Chainsaw PPE Starter Kit, which includes the essential protective equipment needed to get started safely.
The internet, especially platforms like YouTube, is full of videos demonstrating unsafe and improper chainsaw practices. For this reason, STIHL strongly recommends wearing complete protective equipment whenever using a chainsaw. Remember that while Personal Protective Equipment is a vital part of safety, the best protection comes from following safe working practices. Always read the instruction manual carefully and follow all of the manufacturer's safety guidelines before operating your chainsaw.
